Generac Generator Installation Las Vegas: Keep Your Power On When the Grid Goes Down
Updated: Sep 22
Summer in the Las Vegas Valley regularly pushes past 110 degrees. When the heat hits, every air conditioner in the valley runs at once. Transformers in older neighborhoods near Charleston Boulevard or in Spring Valley can fail, and rolling blackouts leave homes without cooling in minutes. A properly installed Generac standby generator starts automatically and keeps your family comfortable.
All City Electric handles complete Generac generator installation Las Vegas projects from start to finish. We size the unit, set the concrete pad, wire the automatic transfer switch, coordinate the gas line, pull the permits, and work with Clark County or city inspectors. We do the full electrical and mechanical installation. We do not offer ongoing maintenance contracts.

Generator Installation
When utility power drops, a Generac standby unit restores electricity within seconds. We install these systems for homeowners in Summerlin, Centennial Hills, Henderson, Green Valley, and across the valley.
Most 2,000–3,000 sq ft Las Vegas homes with two central air units need a 22 kW to 26 kW air-cooled Generac. We calculate your actual load so the generator is neither too small to start the AC compressors nor oversized for your gas supply.
We handle:
Concrete pad and unit placement
Natural gas or propane connection (we coordinate with Southwest Gas or propane providers)
Electrical connections into your main panel
Full system testing after installation
Generator Transfer Switch Installation
A generator cannot safely power your home without an automatic transfer switch (ATS). The switch is the traffic director that keeps power flowing the right way and protects NV Energy lineworkers from backfeed.
Here’s what happens in an outage:
The ATS detects the loss of utility power.
It starts the Generac.
Once the generator reaches correct voltage, the switch disconnects your home from the grid and connects it to generator power.
When NV Energy restores power, the switch returns your home to the utility and shuts the generator down after a short cool-down.
We mount the ATS next to your main service panel and wire everything to current code.

Electrical Panel Upgrades
Many older homes in Paradise, Spring Valley, and central Las Vegas still run on 100-amp or 125-amp panels. A standby generator works best with a modern 200-amp (or larger) service.
Signs you may need a panel upgrade first:
Breakers trip when the air conditioner starts
The panel feels warm or buzzes
The panel is an older brand no longer accepted by local inspectors
You also plan to add an EV charger or pool equipment
We replace outdated panels, add whole-home surge protection, and organize circuits so backup power flows cleanly.

Commercial Generator Installation
A blackout costs restaurants, clinics, and offices real money in spoiled inventory, lost sales, and downtime. We install commercial Generac systems for businesses in North Las Vegas, along the Strip corridor, and throughout the valley.
Common commercial uses:
Restaurants and grocery stores — keep walk-in freezers and cold tables running
Offices and retail — power registers, security, and emergency lighting
Medical offices — support critical equipment and medication refrigeration
We schedule work to minimize disruption to your operating hours.
Why Southern Nevada Homes Need Standby Power
Las Vegas weather is hard on the grid. Monsoon winds and lightning knock out poles. Extreme heat pushes transformers past their limits.
Indoor temperatures can climb above 95° within an hour when the AC stops in July.
Pool water stops circulating in 115° heat and algae can take over in a day.
Many residents rely on oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, or refrigerated medicine.
We pull all required permits with Clark County, the City of Las Vegas, Henderson, or North Las Vegas and coordinate the final inspections.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Generac generator installation take in Las Vegas? Physical installation usually takes one to two days. The full process, including permitting, gas line work, and final inspection, typically runs two to three weeks.
What size Generac generator does a typical Las Vegas home need? Most 2,000–3,000 sq ft homes with two central air units need a 22 kW to 26 kW air-cooled unit. We size it to your actual load.
Where can the generator be placed? Code requires at least 18 inches from the house and five feet from windows, doors, and air intakes. HOA rules and property-line setbacks also apply. We check all of this during the site visit.
Does it run on natural gas or propane? Most homes in Summerlin, Green Valley, and Henderson connect to Southwest Gas. Rural or propane properties are also possible — we set the unit up for the available fuel.
What happens when utility power returns? The automatic transfer switch senses stable power from NV Energy, switches your home back to the grid, runs a short cool-down cycle, and shuts the generator off.
